Compare ftp files without downloading them to your PC
Times have gone when we hosted files only in own personal computers. We are living in the age of the Internet. Thus, you can host file at a server that is located in the other part of the world. Business has greatly profited from development of the Internet. Thus, files you need might be located in different computers and web servers.
As you may have already experienced, file and folder comparison is an extremely important process under some conditions. Information is being constantly modified and thus, we need to track changes as fast as possible. In order to save time (and who knows, maybe money as well) you need to use reputed file compare systems.
Pay your attention to Compare Suite which is a modern file compare utility developed by AKS-LABS. One of the key advantages of this software is that it supports file and folder comparison in case target files are located at remote ftp servers.
As known, ftp servers are widely used in the network industry and in the everyday work of millions of ordinary users. Thus, if you need to compare files from remote ftp you do not need to download them, compare, modify and then upload to the server again. Just use Compare Suite and your problems will be solved.
So, what do you have to do to compare ftp files? First of all, you need to run Compare Suite in a file comparison mode. Then, choose Open from ftp in the File menu. You will see a dialogue box where you should enter some information.
Of course, you have to have the rights to modify and access ftp server files. So, you need to have a username and a password. Then you need to enter a path to the file, a port number, and a host. Having entered all the info, you may check connectivity to remote ftp server (which may be down to technical reasons). Please, repeat this procedure for both files (left and right). You may also contrast ftp file to the document stored in your computer, or compare two ftp files.
When both files are opened Compare Suite works in the normal file comparison mode where you can choose three comparison methods: word by word, char by char and comparison by keyword. Each method is good in its own way.
It is possible to save compare results in the report which will contain full stats on similarities and differences between files.
