It is becoming increasingly more difficult to manage huge IT projects. Even support of a mid sized web site takes much time and effort. The thing is that information is constantly changing. Data update has become a necessity for millions of people.
Files are as a rule stored in the folders so that they can be easily found if necessary. It is not a secret that teamwork is very popular in the IT sphere. It may happen that 10 or more people work on the same project.
Let’s imagine such a situation. You are working on a huge project which files are stored in the shared folder. There are many people working on this project, so content of the folder is being changed every 10 minutes. You have got a copy of the directory in your laptop. However, at the end of the working day you need to update data, as much have been already done there. In other words, you need to synchronize folders.
Compare Suite is an excellent program to synchronize folders/directories, including those located at remote ftp folders. So, let’s review what Compare Suite can do in folder synchronization.
First of all you need to run Compare Suite and open two folders to be compared. To do that you have to choose folder comparison mode (second icon from the left under main menu). If you are going to synchronize folders at remote ftp servers you still need to use folder comparison mode and then choose Open from FTP. Be sure to have all information required to access ftp directory. This is username, password, path to folder, port number. Once you have entered this data you can check connectivity.

So, when the two folders are opened Compare Suite will indicate which one is newer. Besides, files will have special marks, i,e. files that are new, or newer versions of the old files. This visual compare mode is very convenient as you can actually see changes and perform manual synchronization if necessary.
When the folders are opened and you have had a look at them you can proceed to synchronization itself. Compare Suite will offer you a number of synchronization options. So, you will have the choice of removing older files with newer ones, or opening them for manual synchronization. Besides, you can check the box Prompt before every action, i.e. Compare Suite will ask your approval before any action it is going to perform.
