Comparison features and functions
There are a number of features that make Compare Suite very useful for
quality assurance specialists, software developers or just people who want
to save huge time and manage documents in effective way.
Info panel and status bar
Info
panel and status
bar in Compare Suite are a real time savers. Make sure you know what
information is available there.
Basically, you can learn all statistics about changes that were found in
compared documents, e.g. the number of new lines, changes lines, deleted
lines.
The information on Info Panel changes much if you change the comparison
method.
By keywords
compare method and info panel
For instance, if you will use the
"By keywords"
compare method the program will show the information, which can be used
for basic statistical analysis of the text. Compare Suite will show:
- The number of unique keywords in each document
- The number of common keywords
More over, with "by keywords" compare method you will be able to browse
through these unique keywords and get an idea about what your documents are
about.
Finally, information on status bar will help you to understand the
coloring scheme used in
Compare Suite to highlight new words, modified words or deleted words.
Merge Documents with Compare Suite
It
is easy to compare and then
merge two documents with Compare suite.
Please, note: the merge functions will work only
for plain text files. If you will use merge function for, say, MS Word
files, you will be asked to save modified file as plain text file.
It is easy to access Merge function from Compare Suite:
-
Compare two files.
-
Find some difference in the file via browsing comparison
results or using navigation buttons.
-
Right-click on the found difference. Select "Apply
change", "Delete change" or "Insert" change
Please note: if you did something wrong you can do undo
or redo.
Comparison methods: compare by words, by chars, by
keywords
Compare Suite supports three comparison methods:
While "By Words" and "By Chars" comparison methods can be
used for documents with common ancestor only, the "By Keywords"
comparison method can be used
for any document, in this way user may obtain
detailed statistics
about documents.
Ignoring while comparison
There
often might be a situation when you need to
ignore
certain keywords in documents you compare.
-
For instance, if two documents have a data/time stamp
that doesn't matter for this very comparison task, then it is easy to
fine-tune Compare Suite to ignore it. In this case, it is a good idea to
use "line ignoring".
-
Also, there is an option to ignore certain keywords,
for instance, you can manage to ignore keyword "cat", in this way
Compare Suite will ignore changes in this keyword. If two documents will
contain "cat" and "cats", Compare Suite will not show that there is a
difference between two documents.
Another good example on how this feature can help you:
-
Imagine, there is a line which contains some random
identification of document. What you can do is to use the syntax like:
{DOC_ID 1}, in this way you will tell Compare Suite to ignore the first
line after the line with keyword "DOC_ID".
HTML comparison reports
There is very useful and powerful
report generation feature
in Compare Suite, which allows to represent information about modifications
as a html report, which is easy to read, print or share.
There are various reports available in Compare Suite:
-
For file comparison it is possible to have standard
report, which includes the original files and modified text. It is also
possible to create changes only reports or report for one side only or a
combination - a changes only report for one side.
-
There are 3 types of folder comparison reports that
allow to get information in 3 different ways - from short report with
changes only, to advanced report with text of all files.
Automation with command line
Command line
interface is a simple way to
integrate Compare Suite with business system or to integrate it into
your own
quality control process.
The general idea behind integration is the following:
