Find two or more papers accessible internationally on the same day.  Get on the Internet and go to any of the suggested websites: World Press Review . You can plug in any issue into their search engine and get a whole range of articles from different presses. The World Press Review focuses on international papers outside the US.

Find one issue/event to compare and contrast how each of the news sources portrays it. Print both articles:

1. Are the papers identical in their coverage of the event/issue? How would you characterize the similarities, the differences? Apply the 5 Key Questions to each article.

2. How do the headlines differ in tone?

3. Can you comment upon the audience that each paper might be trying to capture? Are those audiences different?

4. Go through the 5 Core Concepts and Key Questions sequence with each article, drawing arrows to the text which is evidence for your answers.

5. Which paper do you trust more and why? Class discussion and presentation of findings. Make posters of the contrasting articles and student findings: these make an excellent educational school display.
