and get a whole range of articles from different presses. The World
Press Review focuses on international papers outside the US.
Find one
issue/event to compare and contrast how each of the news sources
portrays it. Print both articles:
1.Are the papers identical in their coverage of the event/issue?
How would you characterize the similarities, the differences? Apply the
5 Key Questions to each article.
2.How do the headlines differ in tone?
3.Can you comment upon the audience that each paper might be
trying to capture? Are those audiences different?
4.Go through the 5 Core Concepts and Key Questions sequence with
each article, drawing arrows to the text which is evidence for your
answers.
5.Which paper do you trust more and why? Class discussion and
presentation of findings. Make posters of the contrasting articles and
student findings: these make an excellent educational school display.
