Compare file versions in Documentum document management system
Documentum is an enterprise content management system. It is a part of EMC's
content-management and archiving unit.
Howard Shao and John Newton founded Documentum in 1990.
In 2003 Documentum was acquired by EMC.
Documentum products can be broken down into four groups:
Servers;
Applications;
Services;
Clients.
Product Features:
- Enable integration with existing e-business infrastructures and enterprise
systems.
- A content infrastructure that is scalable and can handles content of any
type.
- Extend the functionality to meet unique and customized organizational needs
by adding plug-ins and embedding business rules or processes.
Platform:
The main software that is the lifeline of this system is Content Server.
Other software that Documentum requires to function are obviously present
as well. A platform is defined as the basic host operating systems, which
include Windows, UNIX, and the Linux platforms.
Supported Databases:
Oracle, MS SQL Server, DB2, etc.
These RDBMS help to store information about a user’s documents,
configurations etc by the means of a ‘data dictionary’.
File compare:
Documentum uses an object-numbering schema, which allows many documents to
be named, and let’s the objects attributes define what kind of document
properties should be present by removing the need to always never duplicate
a file name.
Version Compare:
- Authentica: this feature added digital rights management technologies so
that digital assets are secured.
- X-Hive: this feature enhances the managing and repurposing XML-tagged
content components.
- ProActivity: this feature offers the functionality of business process
analysis and business activity monitoring
Positive Aspects:
Architecture, together with the scalability, reliability, and security
capabilities required for enterprise deployments.
For application integration with legacy ECM, Documentum offers Documentum
Foundation Services (DFS) - its content management functionality as web
services.
The Compare Suite can be integrated with other
document management systems using
command line interface. |
