How do Compare Suite deals with Excel files. If Compare Suite can compare Excel file and highlight differences.

Business Problem

I have some large files in Excel that I want to compare. The files have many sheets and lots of calculation (formulas). Actually these files are part of a big report. I would like to check if there are any difference in data and calculation methods. So my question is: can Compare Suite compare large Excel files and display all the differences if any?

Problem Response

During file comparison operation Compare Suite converts Excel file to a text file. And then the program immediately compares 2 text files. So if the text and the result of calculations (formulas) are different the program will display it and highlight the text that is different. But if the result of calculations in 2 files is the same but formulas are different the program considers such texts to be identical. For example in 2 files in 2 different formulas: =10/2 and = 25-20 the result is the same (in the result cell you will have 5). So the program treats texts as identical.

Compare Excel files "by keywords" to have a changes overview

The benefits of using "by keywords" compare feature for having quick overview for Excel files.

Business Problem

Sounds like a crazy idea, but I got useful reports when compared Microsoft excel file using a “by keywords” feature. It’s probably wasn’t designed to compare structured excel file, but it’s quite beneficial for me.

This is a great way to have a look at big files and it doesn’t matter what is file type, if I’m comparing excel file or pdf!

Great idea! I'm just started using Compare Suite and it's "by keywords" related functions, such as "My interest" and "By keywords" compare, but I think it's a powerful approach to comparing excel files and general information compare.

Compare two folders with Excel files

Learn what changes were made in many Microsoft Excel files

Business Problem

I want to share my experience about comparing excel files. I often face the task when I need to quickly find what changes were made within files.

The problem was that I have a lot of files and their format is Microsoft Excel.

Problem Response

I do the following: I run folder compare to compare all excel files and then generate a report. I'm having a web-page htm file with all changes that where made.

No, I'm starting browsing report and changed file at once and at the same time I'm writing my comments to my colleagues by e-mail! It's great!
