Hello,

I'd like to know what is the reason to use a compare utility with document management system. Probably there are some special issues that compare utility can help with?

Thank you!

1) The first obvious reason is that you can checkout some files and compare them to find modifications. Probably you need this when checking out the lastest version of the document and want to learn more about changes details. http://comparesuite.com/features/file_comparison.htm

2) If you are using Compare Suite, then it's handy to compare two related documents "by keywords" (http://comparesuite.com/features/compare-by-keywords.htm). You can quickly learn what is the focus of the document.

3) You can manage document sharing. For instance, if you have two versions of the same document then you can use document audit function to merge files. http://comparesuite.com/features/document_audit.htm

4) Finally, the document manager who check file into DMs can use compare utility to put really informative comments into version history box, read more: http://comparesuite.com/solutions/compare_files_and_write_version_control_comments.htm

Please, note: i've put here ideas that can be applied to any compare utility (not just Compare Suite).

Also, if you have any other ideas about why use compare product with DMS, then please, feel free to share it with others here.

AKS-Labs is now working on creating a demostration how to improve office workflow with compare product.

I've mentioned most benefits, but I missed some. For example, using comparative reports to share knowledge about changes. http://comparesuite.com/features/reporting.htm

I'd be glad to post in forum link to the scheme as soon as we will create it.

Hi Folks,

I've used compare when bringing development/test/training/staging/production docbases into line. This is particularly handy for things like extracts from tables. It's also useful when you've got a number of people working on a document independently, that then needs to be rolled into one master docuement.

The main problem I've had is in getting my clients to buy a copy of Compare.

We are using Compare Suite in our company and buying decision came as we were given on the articles from Solutions section on comparesuite.com.

More over, there was a guide on how to use compare with our DMs (Bob Elliott already posted URL). That was realy useful, as we don't have to spend time explaining our enginers and managers how to use Compare Suite.

It's handy when DMS already has a support of diff tool.

For instance, DocumentLocator: http://www.documentlocator.com/ has a special diff tools page http://www.documentlocator.com/download/difftools.htm

And I was glad to find there my favorite Compare Suite :)
